Time Extension until 15th February has been given for fixing the FASTAG stickers on the vehicles to facilitate the automatic online transaction of the tollgate charges.
The Central Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari had already announced that fixing the FASTAG stickers on the vehicles as mandatory from 1st January. Now, the time extension has been given for the same until 15th February.
The Central Government has been emphasising the fixing of the FASTAG stickers on all vehicles to simplify the procedure of paying the tollgate charges at the tollgates.
Through the FASTAG, the vehicle owner/driver can make transactions and keep records. While the vehicle crosses the tollgates, the equipment fixed on the tollgates will take the payment through the FASTAG sticker. This system will save substantial waiting time for the vehicles in tollgates.
This system has been implemented already. However, the facility to pay tollgate charges by cash is also still being continued.
The Central |Minister Nitin Gadkari, while participating and addressing in a video-conference in an event, shared: “Fixing FASTAG stickers on vehicles will be mandatory from 1st January! With this facility, the long waiting periods at tollgates will reduce substantially. Moreover, a substantial quantum of fuel will also be saved.”
Accordingly, it was expected that FASTAG on vehicles would be mandatory at midnight today (Thursday, 31st December). At this juncture, the time extension has now been given until 15th February. It may be noted that FASTAG stickers may be obtained at the tollgates, through the banks and via the Internet!
