On an experimental basis, for the sake of reducing traffic congestion on the Gemini Flyover, traffic police from today would be doing few changes on the roads abutting the Arterial Anna Salai.

It is brought out that one of the systems that would be tested would be the 2-way traffic on the GB Road or General Patters Road. Over the last few months, a common sight has been the traffic that gets piled up on the Gemini Flyover. Vehicles from Greams Road and from Gemini Flyover pile up on the Anna Salai-whites Road Junction and take a right turn or U turn. It is known that the right turn at Peters Road was stopped a few months back. This was mentioned by the police personnel.

Right turn at the Peters Road would be opened for the vehicles coming from Gemini Flyover and heading towards Spencer’s junction. It was later revealed by Mr. N. Kannan, additional commissioner of police, traffic, Chennai that the U turn and the right turn at the Anna Salai- White’s Road junctions would be closed down and the motorists would be allowed to turn at Anna Salai- Thiru Vi ka Road junction. By this, right turns would be increased from one to two and the traffic congestion would be reduced.

As per a senior police officer, 2-way traffic would be experimented on the G.B. Patters Road. For those vehicles coming from Gemini Flyover, right turn into G.B. Road would not be allowed as of now at the Anna Salai-GB Road junction. He stated that the vehicles from Chintadripet would be allowed to take a free left turn into G.P. Road. It must be noted that the G.P. Road is wide and many automobile shops park their vehicles on the road and repair them. As a result, the road space has become smaller now. Hence, some arrangements need to be carried out.

Information is that many complaints have been received from the public about touts appointed by the shopkeepers jumping in front of the vehicles for attracting the customers. Mr Kannan, additional commissioner of police, traffic, then spoke about how the traffic signal has been planned on the Anna Salai- G.P. Road junction. He added that after this right turn vehicles from Gemini Flyover could also be allowed. It was brought out by some motorists that the General Patters Road was already an unofficial one way. Truth is that vehicles on G.P. Road come from the opposite side very fast creating issues.
