To help the movement of fishermen across the Marina Loop Road stretch, the GCC would be constructing a foot over bridge or FOB across the Loop road. This would be under the Marina Beach beautification project. The main advantage is that many accidents would be avoided. As per an officer, the plan has been finalised according to the orders from the High Court of Madras.
It must be recalled that in November GCC had mentioned that it had identified a 2acre land on the Loop Road in Marina for the modern fish market. The main purpose was to address traffic congestion and to make sure the fish products get sold in hygienic conditions. Information collected was that a parking area has been planned along with 300 shops each of 15sq ft.
Issues in FOB designing:
Narrow landing must be kept on the eastern side of the road near the beach by the GCC due to the coastal regulation norms. Another issue was that GCC were forced to opt for spiral landing on the western side across the road due to less space. There would be 2 spans on the approach to the FOB and a sloping ramp would make it easier for the fishermen carrying big loads to climb up the bridge.
