Metro Services section Thiruvotriyur - Washermanpet in February!

The Metro Rail extension work in the section Washermanpet-Thiruvotriyur-Wimco Nagar covering a distance of 9.05 km at Rs. 3770 Crores has been 100% competed.

Subsequently, the track testing with diesel engine on both tracks has also been completed successfully. The trial run is being continued by the Chennai |Metro Rail during the night sessions. Checking of the signal system has also been complete. The test reports have been compiled and sent to the German |Company which installed the signalling system. A thorough review is already in the process regarding the provision of further facilities as required.

All required equipment is kept ready to commence public service. Before this, the Commissioner of Safety has to inspect the completed project. All required documents and reports have been sent to the Railway Safety Commissioner. After the receipt of this report and review, the team of the Safety Commission will reach Chennai to undertake the inspection of the Thiruvotriyur-Wimco Nagar Section. After the inspection, the Railway Safety Commissioner is set to issue the4 approval for commencing the public service in this section.

As per the above status, Chennai Metro Rail Limited has planned to commence the public services in the 1st half of February.

As such, North Chennai & South Chennai will be linked through Chennai Metro Rail from February. With this, a passenger will need to take a 1-hour comfortable deluxe journey to reach Chennai Metro City Airport from Thiruvotriyur.

When the above project was in progress, certain parts of the Thiruvotriyur High Road was damaged. So, the related repair work including the erection of medians is progressing in full swing. These activities will be completed shortly.
