The Central Government has INFORMED THE Supreme Court that there WOULD BE NO REEXAMINATION FOR THE CANDIDATES WHO FAILED TO AVAIL THEIR LAST OPPORTUNITY DURING LAST OCTOBER!
The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has been organising the Yearly Civil Services Examinations for recruitment in the IAS (Indian Administration Service) and IPS (Indian Police Service).
It had been announced that the Preliminary Examinations for the Civil Services for last year (2020) would be conducted during May. However, due to the raging coronavirus pandemic and the resultant preventive measure of lockdown imposition throughout the country, it was delayed and subsequently conducted in October 2020.
A petition was filed in this regard in the Supreme Court on behalf of those candidates who could not utilise their last opportunity as per their age limit.
In this petition it was mentioned:
These candidates could not prepare properly due to the prevailing coronavirus pandemic and the preventive lockdown conditions and the resultant mental stress.
Further, there were heavy rains during the period when the examinations were conducted and due to the subsequent floods, certain candidates could not attend the examinations. As such, a re-examination must be organised for those who failed to avail their last opportunity due to the age limit!
The above petition came up for enquiry yesterday (Monday, 1st February). On behalf of the Central Government, it was explained that no reexamination will be conducted for those who have missed their last opportunity due to their age limits.
Further, it was appealed for some time required by the Central Government to conduct a review on this issue.
Subsequently, the enquiry was postponed to 5th February.
