It is now revealed that the GCC would soon be converting corporation schools and other civic body buildings as vaccination centres. On Wednesday, 3rd February, a district task force meeting took place at the Ripon Buildings and the decision to convert the corporation schools and other buildings as vaccination centres was taken in that meeting. Speeding up of vaccination in Chennai was discussed by many civic body officials. It is known that the number of Coronavirus cases have been on decline in the city of Chennai.
According to Mr. G. Prakash, Chennai Corporation commissioner, around 1.46lakh persons in ten health workers and frontline workers category have registered for vaccination. He added that out of the total about 20000 persons have already taken the vaccination. It is learnt that the GCC should have vaccinated 55000 persons and centres would be increased by converting the corporation schools and other civic body buildings as vaccination centres. There are now just 47 vaccination centres in Chennai is a known fact.
The Chennai Corporation commissioner later spoke about the presence of 10lakh vials in cold storage and how there were no issues reported pertaining to the adverse effects of vaccines. It must be taken into note that GCC has got capacity to vaccinate 1200 to 1500 persons per day. GCC has been working on vaccinating more than 10000 persons per day.
Information is that GCC has begun registering frontline workers for vaccination including Chennai corporation workers and police personnel etc. In the civic body alone, there are more than 21000 frontline workers.
