The number of Covid-19 cases has been increasing now in the Chennai city and GCC has decided to initiate containment by barricading streets with more than 3 active cases. The zonal health officers have been instructed now by the civic body. In the instruction, the civic body head quarters have urged the zonal health officers to barricade streets with restricted movements. In addition, the health officers have been asked to personally analyse the active cases and plan containment.
A field officer highlighted that strict implementation of facemask adherence and quarantine norms would be carried out. Chennai city reported 1517 Covid-19 cases from 1373 streets and this was until the last 10 days till Saturday. This was as per the data from the GCC. Out of 1517 streets, as many as 1269 streets had one case and 74 streets had 2 cases. The officer pointed out that as many as 20 streets have 3 cases each and 10 streets have more than 10 cases.
The health officers have been instructed by GCC to barricade these 10 streets that have more than 3 Covid-219 cases. It must be recalled that in the early days of Coronavirus pandemic those streets that had even one case were barricaded by GCC. Later on, the decrease in the cases had led to the relaxation in the containment zone strategy and GCC barricaded those streets that had more than 3 cases. It is now said that beginning from today, 8th March 2021 the barricading of streets would begin in Chennai. There are more than 39,000 streets in Chennai city is known.
For creating door-to-door awareness on getting Covid-19 vaccine, GCC has decided to employ domestic breeding checkers or malarial workers. It is shocking to mention that the test positivity rate or TPR has been increasing now in Chennai. This was as per the date from the health department.
Chennai had a TPR of 1.4% between 5th to 11th February and TPR went down to 1.3% between 12th to 18th February. From 19th to 25th February, TPR was 1.5% and from 26th to 4th March TPR has increased to 1.7% in the Chennai city.
