Is this recent COVID spike in the Chennai city the second wave?

International virologist Mr. Jacob john has now confirmed that the increase in the Covid-19 cases in Chennai and in TN is not worrisome like the previous outbreak. He was of the view that the recent spike in the cases could have been a case of fast spreading local mutations of the virus.

Truth is that the recent increase in the number of Covid-19 cases was not the much feared second wave as the number of cases has gone above 18000 per day between 6th January and 8th March. The cases increased in states like Kerala, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Punjab, Haryana and Chhattisgarh etc is known to us.

The virologist then spoke about how the only way to combat the increase in the number of cases in these above said states was by diverting all the vaccines. In these estates, total vaccination of the population would be needed. It must not be forgotten that the Centre began the phase-2 trials of vaccinating candidates only in November but the infection peaked in the middle of September itself. Fact is that India is currently in the endemic stage. Mr. Jacob John concluded that patenting was a private issue and the government cannot convert that into a political gimmick.
