The volunteers at the polling booths have been given strict instructions by GCC and by the District Election Office to allow the voters with fever to cast their votes only between 6pm and 7pm in the evening.
In the order issued by the civic body, the GCC has directed the volunteers to keep thermal scanners, sanitizers and other equipment ready at the polling booths before polling begins. Instructions have been issued for the volunteers to wear facemasks, face shields and gloves. The volunteers must provide facemasks for those entering the polling booths without wearing masks.
It was stated by the order that persons with high fevers would be sent back by the volunteers at the polling booths and these persons would be asked to come to the booths between 6pm and 7pm.
After 6pm, volunteers must also wear PPE kits when persons with Covid-19 would be allowed to cast their votes. Information is that GCC would be providing PPE kits for those voters with viral infection.
In a press release, GCC had mentioned that all the polling booths would be disinfected on Monday evening and again on the polling day they would be disinfected. For the disposal of facemasks, gloves, PPE kits etc yellow coloured bags and bins could be used in the polling booths.
It is now brought out that the GCC has also made some arrangements to help the senior citizens and those with physical issues at the polling booths. At the 1061 polling booths in Chennai, 1061 volunteers along with wheelchairs have been deployed by the civic body.
