For better surveillance, the state health department would be conducting door-to-door Covid-19 screening and testing from 7th of April 2021. This was mentioned by the state health secretary Mr. J. Radhakrishnan. He later threw light on how there would not be a complete lockdown in Chennai this time around after the elections got over.
It must be noted that after the elections get over there would be some restrictions on the non- essential services and it would be decided based on the discussions with the TN chief secretary and various other officials. The economic activities in TN would not get affected by the restrictions.
To accommodate the increase in the number of Covid-19 cases, Covid Care Centres have been opened in all the districts. Point is that those with mild symptoms or asymptomatic symptoms would be sent to these centres or to government care facilities.
On Monday, Mr J. Radhakrishnan was busy inspecting the State Vaccine Store and he spoke about how 32 lakh people have been vaccinated already and how the people have not complained about any complications. Public must come forward to get vaccinated. At the government session sites, multiple vaccination sessions are being conducted and want more people to come forward to get vaccinated. This was brought out by Mr. J. Radhakrishnan.
Information collected is that Covid-19 clusters due to gatherings and home based clusters have been on the rise in TN now. On 6th April 2021 elections would be conducted in various places in Chennai and in TN and the health secretary wants the voters to follow basic norms like wearing facemasks and maintaining social distancing etc while visiting the polling booths. It is important to note that all arrangements have been made to ensure safety measures were followed at the polling booths. The polling booths would have hand sanitizers, facemasks, disposable gloves, thermal scanners and PPE kits etc.
