When compared to 2020, there is now higher and faster inflow of Covid-19 patients and many private hospitals in Chennai are running near full capacity. The truth is that the hospitals are being operated with maximum bed strength now and this was according to some authorities.
It must be noted that some private hospitals are admitting patients based on the number of discharges per day and for want of beds some hospitals keep the patients waiting. There are few hospitals that have decided not to stretch beyond their manpower capacity. In the last 4 weeks, the inflow of patients has increased steadily is known.
It was revealed by Dr. Gomathy Narasimhan, chairman, Medical Advisory Board and senior consultant. HPB Surgery, liver transplant surgeon of Rela Hospital that in the last 2 weeks the bed occupancy has been 90% to 92%. She added that to admit new patients, the hospital would have to wait to see how many patients get discharged on a particular day. Truth is that most patients who come to this hospital are symptomatic. There are also young persons who come to this hospital for Covid-19 treatment.
According to Navin Gnanasekaran, associate director of medical services of MGM Healthcare Hospitals, it was clear that there are many Covid-19 patients now in outpatient wise and inpatient wise than the previous week. It is true that the non covid-19 cases that fell down by 80% to 85% in the previous week but have not fallen down by 10% in this week.
