Some months back, the teachers belonging to various government schools in TN were involved in Covid-19 related works to contain the spread of Covid-19 infection. It is now said that these government school teachers would be deployed for assisting the police department and health authorities. The teachers would be creating awareness in people to protect themselves from the deadly infection. It is learnt that the teachers have been demanding to declare summer holidays for them.
It must not be forgotten that in the month of April in 2020(when Covid-19 infection increased) more than 50000 teachers from various government based schools in TN played a huge role in Covid-19 pandemic control measures.
When compared to last year, the number of Coronavirus infection cases is more now. This was mentioned by a senior officer belonging to the school education department. He added that discussions have been going on to use these teachers for Covid-19 related activities to reduce the burden of frontline workers. The truth is that the frontline workers have been working day and night to control the deadly infection.
The teachers would not have more work now in the schools as the schools have been closed and examinations were cancelled except for class 12 students. The plus two board exams are also postponed now. The official later spoke about how the education authorities concerned were asked to prepare a list of teachers to be deployed from each district. Teachers who are above the age of 50 might be exempted from the Covid-19 related works.
The teachers would be involved in checking the sanitation works that would be carried out regularly in their location plus they would also be creating awareness among the public in wearing facemasks and maintaining social distancing etc.
Details of those who come from other states would be collected by the teachers and distribute pamphlets to the houses about Covid-19 safety aspects etc. In addition, the teachers would also be collecting the details of those who got vaccinated for Covid-19 infection. Mr. P.K. Illamaran, TN Teachers Association president spoke about how the teachers have been expecting summer vacations now.
