Awareness rallies were held along the Marina Beach on Wednesday to commemorate International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. The rallies were conducted by Wisdom Hospital and the Narcotics Control Bureau that saw the participation of schools, colleges, the Coast Guard and NCC cadets. The rally, flagged off by State Health Secretary J. Radhakrishnan, began at the Light House and ended at Anna Square.

‘Many students (are) falling into the trap of drug abuse owing to their curiosity about drugs. Students think that trying drugs just once wouldn’t do any harm. But this logic is wrong. No one tries to drink poison just once, trying drugs should be treated likewise’, said the Dean of the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital Dr. Kanagasabai.
