Stay at home and stay safe!!

Chennai and India witnessed huge increase in the Coronavirus cases in recent times. This has made many stay safe at their homes and avoid flight travel.

It has been brought to light by the officials belonging to the Airport Authority of India or AAI that there has been a consistent reduction in the number of flights now.

It must be noted that the number of flights at Chennai airport stood at 60 to 65 per day in the month of June in 2020 during the first Coronavirus infection wave. The number of flights dropped from 500 early last year before the Coronavirus pandemic infection began. From 60 to 65 per day, the number of flights grew to 200 flights per day after some months.

The news that has come out now is that the number of daily flights has dropped to 65 to 70 per day at the Chennai airport. Truth is that by the end of April month there were nearly 180 to 190 flights per day and nearly 14000 to 15000 passengers travelled daily.

As per an official belonging to AAI, there are just 60 to 70 flights per day now and about 2500 passengers travel every day to their destinations. Various reasons for which the people travel now are medical emergencies, death or for weddings etc. He added that in this second Coronavirus infection wave people must not venture out and staying at their homes is safe for them.

It is learnt that some flights are half full or more than that whereas other flights have just 2 to 3 passengers. People still travel a lot to places like Mumbai and Delhi now. It would be surprising to note that people travel to cities like Jodhpur, Patna etc more. This was according to another AAI official.
