The Chennai residents would have felt shocked after coming to know about sexual harassment by a teacher belonging to a private school during the online class session. In this scenario, the TN government has now decided to review online classes guidelines now (by further streamlining) for the safety of the students.

It must be remembered that following complaints that private schools were engaging students in excess online classes to complete the syllabus TN government issued guidelines for conducting online classes during the first lockdown. Information is that a few rules imposed included restrictions on the timings of the online classes per day and the total number of classes. Truth is that there was no process to monitor the classes by the authorities.

On Tuesday, the school education minister Mr Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi assured that existing online class guidelines would be reviewed and the educational institutions would have to follow them compulsorily. He spoke about how no one expected his sexual harassment and how it was a lesson for many. He added that further restrictions would be brought in for the online classes.

It has been mentioned by a senior officer belonging to the school education department that hereafter the new rules would not only ensure time restrictions but also make sure that all virtual proceedings are recorded.  It is known that currently online classes have interactions between teacher and students and soon there would be a neutral person in the virtual session to monitor the class.

It is learnt that the neutral person would record the virtual class sessions and upload them in the main database of the school. Date wise data must be maintained by the schools on any electronic storage hereafter. In the future, there might also be a separate and exclusive grievance cell for the school students. This was also mentioned by the official.
