Chennai temperature reached new heights in this month of May

Down south in the Chennai city, the incoming dry north-westerly winds played its part in the temperature rise yesterday. Information is that on Wednesday, 27th May 2021 the temperature crossed 40 degrees Celsius for the first time in this May month. This was just the second instance of temperature crossing 40 degrees in Chennai in this 2021

The residents belonging to Chennai would not have forgotten last month on 2nd April Chennai temperature went above 40 degrees Celsius. On that day the maximum temperature recorded in Chennai was 41.2 degrees Celsius.

For the next 2 days, the maximum temperature might go 2 to 3 degrees above the normal in Chennai. This was according to some weathermen. Maximum temperature of 40.3 degrees Celsius was recorded at Nungambakkam yesterday (2.6 degrees above normal) and at Meenambakkam the maximum temperature recorded was 39.5 degrees Celsius (0.6 degrees above normal).

It must be noted that the humidity levels dropped in both the above mentioned places in Chennai yesterday. The rise in the temperature and drop in the humidity levels was due to dry north-westerly winds continuously moving towards Chennai. This was mentioned by an official from IMD.

It was pointed out by IMD that the maximum and minimum temperatures would be hovering around 38 degrees Celsius and 28 degrees Celsius in the next 2 days in Chennai. The sky would be partly cloudy. For the month of May, the average maximum temperatures for Chennai are 37.1 degrees Celsius.

Till Wednesday, the maximum temperatures recorded in Chennai in the month of May were below 38 degrees Celsius. This was according to the weather blogger Mr. Pradeep John. On Thursday also, the day temperatures might be above the normal in Chennai.
