Power disruptions to occur temporarily in Chennai and Tamil Nadu from 19th June

If you come across disruptions in the power or electricity supply in Chennai or in TN in the near future for 2 to 3 hours, then please don’t worry!!

Soon, at all the districts in the state of Tamil Nadu, the state run utility would be undertaking a large-scale maintenance work on power infrastructure. Now, assurance has been given by Mr. V. Senthil Balaji, power minister of TN regarding the power disruptions. He said that the power disruptions might not last more than 2 to 3 hours.

The previous TN government did not carry out the monthly maintenance works for a period of 9 months. This has resulted in power cuts in the state of TN. This was pointed out by Mr. Senthil Balaji. He added that the new government would be carrying out the maintenance works in TN soon. 

Beginning from 19th June 2021, the maintenance works would go on for 10 days and district wise action plans and schedules have been prepared. By this, the public would get prior information regarding the power cuts due to the maintenance works. It is learnt that materials and equipment were procured and kept ready.

It is worthy to note that the department would be repairing more than 62000 electric posts, 30,000 low level cables, 1023 junction boxes. The department would also be bust removing more than 83000 tree branches in the next 10 days. Information collected is that there would not be power disruption or power cut for more than 2 to 3 hours in any locality. In the future, TN would not have any power cut after the maintenance work gets over and power cuts would be there only during the time of the maintenance work.

It is well known that many people have received high power bills and the electricity department is looking into more than 10 lakh complaints about high power bills. Soon, this issue would be resolved. It is now brought out that the department would not cut power supply for 1 or 2 days for the houses after the last date for making payments gets over.
