Placements at IIT – M (Indian Institute of Technology Madras) have been much less than anticipated. Experts have blamed the global economic slowdown for this.
96.2 percent of MBA students, 83.2 per cent of B. Tech. students, 18.7 per cent of Ph. D. students and 11.3 per cent M. Sc. Students were recruited. The highest recruitment was from the MBA department, while the lowest was from the Chemistry department. The average salary offered ranged from Rs. 6 lakhs per annum to Rs. 82 lakhs per annum.
‘The global economic slowdown (has) had a greater impact on (our) placement. As M.S. and Ph.D students register for placement and don’t take up any job offer the total placement picture creates an impression as though very few placed, but most of the B.Tech students are already placed with top companies’, said Damini Gandham, Academic Affairs Secretary.
