The grand and famous annual ’Deepam Festival’ annually celebrated with grandeur, devotion and pomp at Thiruvannamalai Lord Arunachaleswarar Temple commenced yesterday (Tuesday, 9th November) with the Divine Flag-hoisting ceremony. Sivachariyar hoisted the flag on the Golden flagpole at 6.40 AM.

The festival is celebrated for 10 days. The most important event of this 10-days festival is scheduled on 19th November when the Maha Deepam is lit on the top of the mountain located on the back of the Lord Arunachaleswarar Temple.

During the Maha Deepam Festival, as a tradition, the deity of the Lord is taken on a procession in the corridor streets around the temple.

However, due to the prevailing coronavirus pandemic situation, the event of the procession of the deity in the corridor streets has been cancelled and the procession will be conducted within the temple complex on the 5th corridor of the temple!

The task of renovating and resetting all the carriages used in the procession and the setting up of the serial electric lighting throughout the temple complex is in rapid and intense progress.

During the festival, Special adorning of the deities will be performed in the ‘Thirukkalyana Mandapam’ located in the ‘Panchamurthy’ temple complex/

The task of setting up colourful electric serial lamps in the Thirukkalyana Mandapam is also in progress.

Further, all the 9 temple towers in the complex have been decorated with colourful electric serial bulbs and when lit, the temple towers are seen glittering even from a 20 km distance!

The tradition Vinayakar Utsavam, performed for the smooth progress of the Maha Deepam Festival, was also performed!
