Surprising information regarding Chennai receiving heavy rainfall in a short time!!

From last Saturday onwards, Chennai city has been receiving heavy rains and people have been facing many issues due to the heavy rains. Many localities in the Chennai city are still under the water are well known to us.  

The surprising piece of news is that Chennai city has received 5.5 times more rains than normal from 7thh to 12th November 2021. In this time period of 5 days, Chennai has received 46cm of rain and this was brought out by Mr, S. Balachandran, deputy director general of meteorology, Chennai. It is learnt that this was 492% more than the normal quota of rains in Chennai of just 8cm. The recent rains triggered by depression have brought an overall rainfall of 10% in Tamil Nadu. This was 142percent more than normal for the week.

The depression on Thursday has weakened into a low pressure over north interior TN and neighbourhood. It is now revealed by the meteorological department that another fresh low pressure would form over the south Andaman Sea by Saturday. Information collected is that this might intensify into depression over east-central and adjoining south-east Bay of Bengal on 15th November. The rain bands would shift to other districts this weekend because the trough runs from coastal AP to Comorin area across Rayalseema and interior parts of Tamil Nadu.

On Saturday, 13TH November, there might be heavy rains in 18 districts like Kanniyakumari, Vellore, Namakkal, Madurai etc. Till 5:30 pm in the evening on Friday, 12th November, the weather systems in TN received light rains. It was highlighted by some officials belonging to GCC that out of 529 flooded areas in Chennai more than 300 areas continue to have flooding on Friday. The level of water has receded slightly in various places in Chennai like T. Nagar, Pattalam and Pulianthope etc.
