If you are from southern suburbs in Chennai then you would have got used to heavy rains, water stagnations, floods etc that happens year after year. It is now said that flooding is an annual affair for these residents of south Chennai.

The residents belonging to the low lying places in southern suburbs of Chennai like Mudichur and Thiruneermalai etc have been stranded as these places have been inundated due to the recent very heavy rains. Rainwater inundations occur every year in other suburbs of south Chennai such as West Tambaram, Perumbakkam and Semmancheri etc.

It was later pointed out by a Mudichur resident that the only solution available was to sell the houses and vacate. The issue is that no prospective buyer could be found as many know about the issues in Mudichur. Another resident belonging to Mudichur spoke about how he and his family have not been evacuated and they have been managing with the available food supplies.

Thiruneermalai locality has been flooded by the recent heavy rains and water has not yet receded from the roads. Boats are the only means of transport here for the residents.

It is important to mention that most of the entry and exit ramps on ORR and Maduravoyal-Tambaram bypass have been flooded. This has blocked the passage of many belonging to suburban towns. Point is that near west Tambaram ORR is still submerged. Water has entered into the houses of those living in places like Semmencheri and Perumbakkam etc. The residents in these places have been finding it difficult. The shocking piece of information is that inundation in these localities has brought reptiles inside the houses. Truth is that for the stagnant water to recede it would take a week. The district administration has deployed motors to pump out the water in some places.
