Old train fares to be restored for all the special trains in operation - trains to operate as per the timing before the coronavirus pandemic!

After the recent order released by the Railway Commission, the old train fares will be restored in all the special trains currently being operated from last Saturday (13th November).
As per the order, the trains will operate as per the old times before the impact of the coronavirus pandemic.
The central and the state governments were constrained to impose lockdown conditions with a lot of restrictions as a preventive measure against the raging 1st & 2nd waves of the coronavirus pandemic. Subsequently, most of the train services were withdrawn.
With the gradual relaxations of the restrictions with subsequent phases of the lockdown extensions, special trains were introduced in most of the routes.
Accordingly, the mails, the expresses, special trains and the festival occasion trains were operated.
Out of these, some additional fare was introduced for some of the trains. The additional fare was introduced especially for the holiday and festive occasion trains.
Subsequently, other measures such as the provision of additional coaches without reservation, etc., were implemented.
In this scenario, the Railway Commission ordered the cancellation of all special trains and instructed that all the old trains with the old fares be reintroduced.
This order was implemented immediately effective from Saturday, 13th November.
As such, all the prevalent 1700 special trains were reverted to operate as per the old fares.
The above developed has been greatly welcomed by the train passengers and the various passenger`s Associations!
An official from Southern Railway shared in this regard:
“We have implemented the Railway Commission’s Order to restore the old train fares All the festive occasion and holiday special trains operating in the Southern Railway and the Southwest Railway have been restored to the old system of operation as per the old fares.
This task has been completed in the Chennai Centre and the passengers are already booking their train tickets as per the old fares!
Apart from this, the old concessions offered to the senior citizens, differently-abled citizens, and citizens who have been honoured for excellence in sports will all be restored shortly!”
Train Numbers changed for 293 train services!
As regards the change in the train numbers, it has been panned to change the train numbers for over 3000 trains through the centre for Railway Information.
As such, 500 train numbers are being changed every day. The train numbers s of southern railway 293 trains will be changed gradually!
