With persistent heavy downpour, all water reservoir resources for Chennai Metro City filling up!

Following the recent persistent heavy downpour, all the major drinking warder source reservoirs in Chennai Metro City have filled up and the water levels have risen.

  • There was an inflow of 7720 cft per second to the Poondi water reservoir and the level reached 32.63’ and the reservoir is full by 73.88%.
  • For the Cholavaram water reservoir, there was an inflow of 1263 cft per sec and the water level has risen to 18.86’ and the reservoir is 73.12% full. A rainfall of 15 cm has been recorded.
  • There was an inflow of 2633 cft per second for the Puzhal water reservoir and the water level has risen to 18.67’ and the reservoir is83.18% full. A rainfall of 11 cm has been recorded.
  • There was an inflow of 5900 cft per second to the Chembarambakkam water reservoir and the water level has risen to 21.13’ and the reservoir is 79.29%. A rainfall of 12 cm has been recorded.
  • There was an inflow of 2285 cft per second to the Veeranam lake and the water level has risen to 8.50’. The lake is 65.11% full. Rainfall of 8 cm has been recorded.
  • Thiruvallur district: Thervai Kandigai dam has been filled.

Madhuranthagam: 
  • All the 262 lakes under the jurisdiction of the Public Works Department have filled up to full capacity after a gap of 6 years! Due to the persistent heavy downpour over the last few weeks, all the lakes are filled up to full capacity after a gap of 6 years.
