On 1st of January 2020, the CM of Tamil Nadu Mr. M. K. Stalin would be inaugurating the newly created Tambaram and Avadi Commissionerates. It must be noted that these commissionerates were finalized after many rounds of discussions with a high level committee having senior police officers including DGP of TN MR. Sylendra Babu plus chief secretary, home secretary and finance secretary etc. The structure has been finalized tentatively and as per that each commissioner would be in the rank of ADGP or additional director general of police.
There would also be others like 2 joint commissioners or JCoPs and 5 DCP or deputy commissioners of police. Within its jurisdiction, each commissioner would have 2 police districts. It is said that the Tambaram commissionerate would have Tambaram and Pallikaranai police districts and DCPs would be in-charge of them. There would be a DCP for armed reserve and motor transport, the central crime branch would have a separate DCP and one DCP would control the city intelligence unit.
It is learnt that in Avadi commissionerate Redhills and Avadi would have a separate DCP and 3 DCPs for armed reserved wing and motor transport, central crime branch and city intelligence unit.
There would be atleast 9 new police stations and 6 new subdivisions in these newly created commissionerates. At a four story building near Sholinganallur traffic junction, Tambaram commissionerate has been set up. Information is that a new building of the commissionerate would come up at a 5 acre government land near ORR near Tambaram. Opposite to Avadi bus terminus, at a 4 storey building of state disaster rescue force, Avadi commissionerate has been set up. To build a permanent structure for the commissionerate, a piece of government land has been identified near ORR. It must be remembered that the chief minister on 13th September in the Assembly hinted about creating 2 new commissionerates.
