Bhemma a 42-year-old labourer from Jharkhand died after he slipped and fell from an elevated viaduct of the Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS) near Karumari Amman Temple on 200-feet road near Thillai Ganga Nagar in Adambakkam recently. Police said Bheema was getting off a ladder with other workers when he slipped and fell more than 15m. He was rushed to a private hospital in Madipakkam, where he was declared bought dead.
A group of 12 workers had completed construction of the MRTS line from Velachery to Adambakkam and workers were winding up when Bheema fell. They were climbing down a temporary steel ladder. Police moved the body to Chrompet General Hospital for postmortem. The body was handed over to Bheema`s nephew, who will be taking it back to Jharkhand by train. A senior railway officer said the contractor would pay compensation to the relatives as per the contract agreement clause.
