Until now, the fertilizers made from the garbage collected by the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) was being sold at Rs. 20/- per kg. Now, joining with the Tamil Nadu Cooperative Trading, Greater Chennai Corporation has decided to sell this fertilizer made from Chennai Metro City’s collected garbage at just Rs. 3/- per kg!
There are 15 Zones in Chennai Metro City under the Greater Chennai Corporation. Out of these 15 zones, private companies have been deployed in 10 zones to handle the garbage of 10 zones!
As for the remaining 5 zones, Greater Chennai Corporation has directly undertaken this handling of the garbage. 19618 cleaning staff and 6117 vehicles are deployed to handle this task.
Around 5200 tons of garbage are collected daily by the Greater Chennai Corporation. Out of these, 50% of garbage is decomposable garbage. The balance of 50% garbage is non-decomposable.
208 fertilizer manufacturing units have been set up to manufacture fertilizer from the decomposable garbage collected.

Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) has now planned to join hands with the Website of the Cooperative Trading Corporation functioning under the Tamil Nadu State Government Department of Cooperatives and sell these fertilizers made from decomposable garbage collected at just Rs. 3/- per kg!
The Senior Officials of the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) have shared that the farmers and agriculturists in the neighbouring areas can avail of this beneficial price with increased sales of the fertilizers manufactured.
