Getting piped gas connections in your homes!! Sound’s incredible isn’t it!!

This would soon become a reality in Chennai from the month of June 2022. It must be taken into account that the TN government has been taking huge efforts for providing PNG or piper natural gas supply to the houses in Chennai. The line departments like road cutting etc have been asked to provide permissions for laying pipelines from the CNG or compressed natural gas terminal at Ennore. It is learnt that the first customers of PNG in Chennai would be a very large apartment complex near Thirumangalam. It was mentioned by a source that the industries department has been providing huge help plus a nodal agency has been appointed to supervise the implementation of the CNG project.

Around 6666km of lines would be laid in Chennai and in Tiruvallur by the private company and this was according to sources belonging to the oil industry. It is now revealed that the laying of lines would be the most difficult part since other important lines like water, sewage, power, internet and telephone lines run under the Chennai city roads.

In the next 8 years, around 33lakh customers would be provided with PNG connections in Chennai and in Tiruvallur. It is worth mentioning that the main line would run along the Jawaharlal Salai via Manali, to Madhavaram Circle reach Kathipara and then to Meenambakkam. Residential places would have branch lines. Information is that PNG connections would be like those given in LPG reticulated connections and gas would run through pipelines.

Cylinders would not be present and after collecting the initial payment the company would provide PNG connections within 90 days. Large diameter burners with larger nozzles would be needed for the PNG stoves. The consumers now are being encouraged (by the Petroleum Conservation Research Association) to switch over to PNG compatible stoves. 70 out of 222 CNG outlets that have been set up in Chennai and Tiruvallur have become operational and every day around10000 kg of CNG is being supplied to around 6800 vehicles. Truth is that 6000 of them are CNG vehicles sold by the manufacturers while the remaining are retrofitted vehicles.
