Adiperukku and Ayyanar festival is presented by Dakshina Chitra, in association with the Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation. The festival is to be held from July 27 to August 4 between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. at Dakshina Chitra, Muttakadu, ECR.
Adiperukku is celebrated on the 18th day of the Tamil month of Adi in which communities from villages and towns, join in for a day of thanksgiving to the life-giving properties of water.
Ayyanar is a guardian deity believed to protect villages. A procession taking terracotta offerings to the Ayyanar shrine at Dakshina Chitra will be taken on August 4.
The line-up also includes folk performances such as Thappattam, kummi, kolattam and oyilattam; display and sale of wood carving / inlay craft; documentary film screening on the Ganges; and models of water harvesting.
