It is well known that TNEB or Tamil Nadu Electricity Board has been providing electricity support to everyone in Tamil Nadu at varying rates. No amount would be charged for providing electricity supply provided to agriculture. Truth is that those belonging to the industrial sector have been charged in excess. Small amount is being charged by TNEB for other categories. It must be taken into note that EB calculates electricity supply charges for every 2 months and collects the amount. Due to the Coronavirus pandemic, TNEB couldn’t ask its staff to go to various houses to collect EB charges and the public paid their EB bills by taking into account the previous month`s charges. Now, the Coronavirus cases have reduced and all the sectors have started to function normally.

The news is TNEB has asked the sectors to pay their electricity bill charges within 20 days of calculating the amount. If this condition was not followed strictly then the sectors would have to pay a penalty amount also compulsorily. Public were finding it difficult to pay their electricity bills when they travelled to another place but from now on this issue won’t be as arrangements are made for them to pay their bills in advance. It is now said that the customers would have to pay some amount to EB and the electricity regulatory commission or ERC sets the rate of interest on this amount based on the interests fixed by RBI for deposit funds. It is now brought out that for this year the regulatory commission has given instructions to fix the interest rate at 2.7%.
