The National Highways Commission has at long last commenced the project activities for setting up the 6-Lane Highway from Surat to Chennai lot of delays and drags.
The announcement for setting up a 6-lane National Highway from Surat (Gujarat State) to Chennai (Tamil Nadu) was proposed in the year 2019.
Presently, the project report has been prepared.
Project activities are set to commence shortly in Surat.
This National Highway will cover Nasik, Kolhapur (Maharashtra), Karnataka, Telangana, and Andhra to link with the Chennai-Kolkata National Highway.
The project requires Rs. 50000 Crores. Presently, travel of 1600 km is required from Chennai to Surat. Once this Highway is constructed, this distance by road will reduce to 1270 km! The travelling time will also reduce by 6 hours!
There are also prospects for the travel distance from Chennai to Mumbai to reduce by up to 100 km.
This proposed National Highway would also be useful for goods transportation. One can travel at a speed of 120 kmph on this National Highway.
It has been planned to complete the project and commence transport service before 2025.
As per the plan, the road-laying work is set to commence at Telangana shortly!
In this regard, a senior official of the National Highway Commission shared:
The Central Minister for National Highways, Nitin Gadkari has been paying special attention to this project and is interested in commencing and expediting the project activities. In the 1st Phase of the project, road-laying will be taken up in the section Surat-Nasik-Kolhapur covering a distance of 504 km.
In the 2nd Phase, the road laying will be done in the section Kolhapur-Kurnool-Tirupathi-Chennai. The Delhi-Mumbai Highway will link with this highway near Surat.
This highway would serve great to travel to Jaipur, Delhi, Chandigarh, and Jammu-Kashmir. This highway will cover a distance of 156 km in the State of Tamil Nadu and a distance of 320 km in the State of Andhra.
In this, an estimate has been made that it would cost Rs. 10000 Crores for the road construction between Chennai-Kurnool.
