To make the students know about the Indian Standards, all high schools and technical institutions in higher secondary education would have standards clubs. Certain basic engineering concepts plus code of practices and related services etc would be imparted to these students at schools and at college level. For the creation of the standards club, detailed guidelines have been released. This has been initiated by BIS or Bureau of Indian standards under the Ministry of Consumer Affairs.
It must be noted that standard clubs comprising teachers and students would function through NGOs and consumer groups on a no-profit basis. It is learnt that each club would have a mentor, a science subject teacher belonging to class 9 and class 12 and a lecturer of technical institutions, a student leader and 15 members comprising regular students.
It was revealed by a senior official belonging to the DOTE or directorate of technical education that the standard club would carry out a variety of programmes involving students and it would provide them opportunities for creativity on the themes of quality and standardisation. In an academic year, each standard club would conduct atleast 3 programmes on various themes and the activities of the clubs would be undertaken within the schools and colleges.
