Power situation improves in Chennai

The onset of rains in Chennai has reduced the number of power outages in the city. As lesser people are using the air conditioners, power consumption has come down, leading to prolonged supply.

‘There is surplus power as wind energy and hydro power generation has been good and rains across the state have reduced consumption. On an average 9,600 mega watts power is needed for the state while the city needs 2,000 mega watts power on Sundays… We are able to meet the demand comfortably. Dams are full and we are not using hydro power much. It is been kept as a reserve. The city has not been experiencing power cuts… Peak demand is between 6pm to 10pm in the city. This has also reduced in the last few weeks. Power scene is expected to continue like this for a few more weeks’, said officials.
