The flash strike by the MTC buses drivers in Chennai on Friday created issues for many office goers and students. It must be noted that a ticket checking inspector had issued a notice to a bus conductor for allowing a commuter to travel in MTC bus route no 15 without having the bus ticket. On Friday, the operation of MTC buses at Broadway bus terminus came to a standstill for an hour from 7:30am to 8:30 am. Entire bus crew demanded justice for the conductor who was given notice by the ticker checking inspector and they protested. This has led to many office goers and students getting stranded at the bus terminus.

A surprise check was conducted on the bus route 15 (between CMBT and Broadway) and one of the 90 passengers did not have the bus ticket for travelling in the MTC bus. Memo was issued to the conductor for not being able to do his work efficiently and Rs 500 was collected as penalty from the person who did not have a valid bus ticket.

General Secretary of CITU affiliated union Mr. V. Dhayanantham expressed his views and spoke about how the conductor did not accept the memo as the bus was overcrowded. Just a few years back, a memo was issued to the conductor and it led to protests by the bus crew. The bus had 100 plus passengers at that time. It was decided by the MTC management that no memos would be issued if the bus has more than 60 passengers.
