Self service option at food chains more popular

Many popular vegetarian food chains are now encouraging their patrons to opt for the self service section at their restaurants. These sections do not have air conditioning and people will need to stand and eat. This has proven beneficial to people who are in a hurry, those who don’t mind eating while standing and also those who do not wish to pay the additional service tax at air conditioned sit – down restaurants.

‘Many hotels are also highlighting the self-service mode in order to deal with the labour shortage. The reduction in prices was also driven by a drop of 10 – 15 per cent in the number of customers in all classes of restaurants. High prices were driving customers away. This has led to hoteliers reducing prices of fast moving items’, said President of the Chennai Hotels Association K.T. Srinivasaraja.
