Delivering food to the customers at the correct time is important but not at the cost of violating the traffic rules!!

On Wednesday, 30th March 2022, a special drive was carried out in Chennai by the traffic police department.  The shocking piece of information is that in just a single day as many as 978 delivery partners belonging to Swiggy, Zomato etc have been booked by the traffic police personnel for violation of road traffic rules. This corresponds to 10percent of the delivery partners on Chennai roads on a daily basis. In this special drive, a penalty amount of Rs 1.35lakhs was collected from these traffic rule violators.

According to the traffic police it was confirmed that out of 978 delivery partners who were fined for traffic rules violation as many as450 were from Swiggy, 278 from Zomato, 188 by Dunzo and 62 persons work for other aggregators. There were several complaints against the food delivery partners for traffic rules violations (for delivering food to the customers on correct time) and due to this series of awareness campaigns were conducted. Later on, this special drive was initiated.

Signal jumping and stop line violation were 2 major traffic rule violations done by these food delivery partners. It is learnt that 9000 persons have been engaged by these food aggregators on a daily basis and 90percent of them belonged to Swiggy and Zomato. The police have mentioned that this drive would continue in the coming days also. Truth is that food aggregators like Swiggy, Zomato etc were not aware of the traffic violations committed by their delivery partners.
