Sitting or standing under the traffic umbrellas near the switch to catch the traffic violators would soon become a thing of the past!!
The news is Chennai traffic police are now trying out a new idea of having remote controlled traffic signals in Chennai. At the 5 junctions in the highly congested Vepery this is being used now.
It is now revealed that by using remote controlled traffic signals the traffic police need not sit under traffic umbrellas near switches to catch the traffic violators. By this remote controlled method, it would be possible for the traffic police personnel to operate the traffic signal from 50m to 100m away also.
The remote controlled method has been introduced in Vepery in the importa t junctions like Gandhi-Irwin Road, EVK Sampath Road, Ritherdon Road, Dr. Nair Road & Dasaprakash.
By this new method, traffic policemen would be able to stand in the middle of the junction and assess the volume of the vehicles. Operating and changing the traffic signals on priority basis would be possible. The pedestrians would be able to cross the roads easily. As per s senior traffic police personnel, if this new method is successful then it would be extended to other traffic signals also in Chennai.
