Guess how much amount has been collected as property taxes by GCC till now in Chennai?

In recent times, important information regarding property taxes in Chennai has been coming out. The latest is that GCC has collected an amount of Rs 102 crores as property tax from the residents belonging to Chennai. This amount has been collected from 1.72lakh assesses since 1st April in the financial year.

In 15 GCC zones in Chennai, there are 13lakhs property tax assessments and this includes owners of residential as well as commercial buildings. There would not be any extension by GCC about the 5% incentive for property tax payment after 15th of April 2022.It is now said that assesses would have to pay a penalty amount of 2percent.

The sensational information is that Teynampet zone has collected Rs 17.38 crores towards property tax and this is the highest of all zones till now. An amount of Rs 1.57 cores has been collected as property tax from Manali zone and this has been the lowest in Chennai till now.

Various other GCC zones and the property tax amount collections are Tiruvottiyur zone (Rs 2.64 crores), Madhavaram zone (Rs 3.77 crores),Tondiarpet zone ( Rs 2. 49 crores), Royapuram( Rs 1.31crores),  Thiru Vi Ka Nagar (Rs  2.97 crores), Ambattur (Rs9.72 crores), Anna Nagar ( Rs 7.96 crores), Kodambakkm ( Rs 7.29 crores), Valasaravakkam (Rs 4.19 crores) Alandur (Rs 4.2 crores), Adyar (Rs 9.41 crores) and Perungudi (Rs 3.42 crores and Sholinganallur (Rs 6.73 crores) etc.

In many south based GCC zones such as Adyar zone, Valasaravakkam zone, Perungudi zone and Alandur zone, payment of property tax through online mode has become common now. In these zones more than 50% of assesses have paid their property tax amount online. It is known to us that GCC has been taking many measures to improve its revenue. Information is that many un-assessed as well as under-assessed buildings have been identified now.
