In the future, if you want to go to the Marina Beach, then you can go there by getting down at Light House station. This upcoming metro station at light house would be the longest metro station of phase-2 and would be built over 300m.
The sensational piece of information is that unlike in the other metro stations in Chennai the passengers at Light House metro station would have to go to level-1 to buy tickets and come back to level-2 to board the metro train. The metro station that would be coming up at the lighthouse would be the first ever shallow metro station that would be built by CMRL.
This metro station would have a platform on the first level and a mini-concourse on the second level. The normal or usual building plan of CMRL would not be there in this upcoming lighthouse metro station. It is learnt that the usual building plan of CMRL would have a concourse on the upper level and a platform on the lower.
For the stretch between Light house and Poonamallee, this would be an important terminal station. By this, the residents belonging to various places across Chennai would have fast and easy access to Marina Beach. It is essential to get CRZ or Coastal Regulatory Zone approval for building the station and CMRL has already done this. To make sure that the marine ecosystem does not get affected, CMRL has planned to construct it as a shallow underground metro station.
Information is that one entry/exit would be coming up near Queen Mary`s College and another would be built near the LightHouse. It is now said that the concourse would be small, just 70m to 80m in length. To give a view of the beach, the entry/exit point would be designed aesthetically.
