Chief Minister Jayalalithaa ordered the allocation for the works that would improve connectivity, besides reducing fuel consumption and travel time, said an official press release. More than 2400 projects will be undertaken under the Integrated Road Development Programme. The total work is expected to cost Rs. 2950 crores.
The money will be utilised for road widening, upgradation, construction of bridges and provision of storm water drains across Tamil Nadu. It will also include a Rs. 98 crore project to four lane the Chennai Tiruttani Renigunta Highway, Rs. 52 crores to construct bypass roads in Thanjavur district and Rs. 11.24 crores to improve East Coast Road in Kanchipuram.
