The metro stations in Chennai would soon have additional infrastructure and manpower!!
It is now said that the commuters would be able to avoid long walks to buy metro trains tickets for travelling. There are 32 metro stations in the 45km network belonging to the phase-1 project of CMRL.
There are 4 entry and exit points at each metro station in Chennai. There are ticket counters, vending machines and automatic fare collection gates present on 2 sides of concourse level in each metro station. The shocking piece of information is that just in 10 metro stations these now function on one side. The passengers have been forced to walk long distances from one end to another end to buy their travel tickets.
As per some CMRL officers it was pointed out that in another 3 months this issue would not be there as CMRL would be activating ticket counters and installing X-ray scanners on both sides in all metro stations.
The operations started in 2015 and ticket counters were not functional on both sides in the stations as passenger traffic was poor. Now on the weekdays, the footfalls in the metro stations have gone up to 1.7lakhs. In the coming months, the metro stations would have more footfalls and arrangements have been made to order additional baggage scanners, to hire security staff and place the ticketing staffs on both sides of the concourse. The senior citizens using metro trains would feel relieved now as they do not have to walk long distances to get their metro train travel tickets.
