The State Minister for Transport of the Tamil Nadu Government, S. S. Sivasankar, informed yesterday (6th June, Monday) that a tender is to be floated shortly for introducing an e-ticketing system in government buses!
In this regard, an announcement was made during a session in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly that An Automatic Fare Collection System (AFCS) will be introduced in the state buses
This project is funded by the German Bank (KfW) and will enable passengers to buy Travel Tap Cards, which can be recharged ONLINE or on computers in government bus depots/terminals.
During the initial phases, this cashless ticketing system will be introduced on the city buses in Chennai, Madurai, and Coimbatore for Rs. 70 Crores!
