Childhood is a very important stage in the life of a person and the children are not meant for doing jobs. In other words, there should not be any child labour. at all. A child has just got one important thing to do and that is to study only. In Chennai Elliot’s Beach is very popular and this beach has grabbed the attention of many.
Yesterday, 12th June 2022 was World Day against Child Labour and to show solidarity 500 children as well as adults participated in human chain formation at this beach. This human chain was organised by Tamil Nadu Domestic Workers Welfare Trust.
It is noteworthy that members of the Child Rights Movement along with the trust presented many demands to eradicate child labour. The members wanted strict action to be taken by the Tamil Nadu government to prevent child labour across various sectors. The main aim was to make the state of TN child labour free. An increase in the amount of scholarships for the children of the domestic workers was also pointed out by the members. The main objective behind this request for increase in scholarship for the children was to provide education and protection.
In future, there might be a possibility of a district and taluk level child protection committee because the Child Protection Movement has called for that. By this, children who have relocated would be monitored continuously. It must be noted that when the urban slum dwellers were relocated they also demanded that the government ensure safety and education.
