The long wait would soon come to an end for tennis lovers belonging to Chennai city. The tennis loving Chennai residents would have to wait just for a few more months only till September to get a closer look at their favourite tennis stars in action.
The city of Chennai would be conducting the first ever open WTA 250 International Women Tennis Championship in September month and arrangements have been going on.
From 12th to 18th September 2022, the first ever WTA 250 international women tennis championship would be held in Chennai and it would be sensational for the tennis crazy fans. On Thursday, 30th June 2022 this was confirmed by the government of TN and Tamil Nadu Tennis Association or TNTA.
September month would witness a long queue outside Nungambakkam based SDAT stadium that would be holding this sensational sporting event. Leading women players among the top 100 would be making their presence felt in this tournament in Chennai. The lead sponsor for this tennis tournament would be the Tamil Nadu government and it would be spending around Rs 2 crores.
It has been 14 years since the WTA 250 Tour event took place in India and the last time it happened was in the year 2008. Things have changed totally in these 14 years is well known.
It is noteworthy that the draw size would comprise of 32 singles main draw/ 16 doubles main draw and 24 singles qualifying draw. President of TNTA, Mr. Vijay Amritraj (a former Indian tennis player) expressed his thoughts and spoke about how he was delighted and proud to conduct the first ever WTA 250 International Women Tennis Championship in Chennai. Mr. Vijay Amritraj threw light on how WTA as well as APG Consulting has played their roles to perfection in allotting the important tennis event to Chennai.
It is worthy to note that this former Indian tennis player addressed a press conference yesterday. Point to be noted is that the ATP event has made a terrific impact on tennis in TN and in the entire India. Best tennis players across the world have come to Chennai to showcase their skills in the past.
Fact is that Indian tennis players like Leander Peas, Mahesh Bhupathy etc have utilised the home opportunity to maximum levels to move onto top world stage. The CM of Tamil Nadu Mr. M.K. Stalin has helped a lot with proactive measures in organising this sensational WTP 250 in Chennai.
