A 5 day counselling would be provided to the students belonging to the classes 9, 10, 11 and 12 in Tamil Nadu. This counselling would be held before the re-opening of the schools and the main objective behind the counselling is to make these students get acclimatized to the classroom learning after a long gap because of the Coronavirus infection pandemic.
The school education minister Mr. Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi made his presence felt at the first regional review meeting of the government schools of all streams in Vellore region for this academic year 2022-23. He explained that the school students who would be appearing for the public examinations would be benefited by the 5 day counselling. The counselling would help these students to concentrate more in their studies.
Soon, in all the schools belonging to Tamil Nadu, the initiative of organising a 5 day counselling would be implemented. For sharpening the learning skills of the students studying in the government schools in the state, more extra- curricular as well as outdoor activities might be organised for the students. Monitoring the performances of their students must be carried out without fail by the teachers. It is known that at present each educational region has got atleast 4 districts covering government schools.
There are as many as 2381 government schools in Vellore region and the region consists of Vellore, Thirupathur, Ranipet and Tiruvannamalai districts. In the above said meeting there were important discussions about the ways to improve the teaching standards in the TN run government schools belonging to these districts. Various other important persons who made their presence felt in the meeting were Chief Educational Officers or CEOs and District Educational Officers or DEOs etc.
In the review meeting that was not held during the Coronavirus pandemic, there were also discussions regarding improving learning skills of government school students plus increasing the enrolment especially for the lower classes and providing soft skills etc.
Many were of the view that classes must be held regarding self defence, good/ bad touch, child sexual abuse etc to help the students to know about these issues.
The shocking piece of information is that in the recently held public exams for classes 10 and 12 districts belonging to Ranipet and Vellore scored a low pass percentage. Point to be noted is that the senior teachers and educational officials stressed the need to have virtual classrooms, audio-visual labs and better infrastructural facilities like the classrooms, libraries, playgrounds etc.
