For some time, the commuters have been finding it difficult regarding parking their vehicles in the Chennai metro stations due to lack of space. This has made the commuters unhappy. Truth is that commuters who are in a hurry to board the metro trains park their vehicles at random public places. This has been leading to lots of traffic as well as public disturbances.
According to a resident from Adambakkam who frequently uses the metro train to reach the destination, finding parking space during the peak hours was difficult. He added that he was forced to park his vehicle at a nearby shop. He concluded that there was always a risk of his vehicle towed by the traffic police personnel or someone damaging the vehicle.
It must be taken into note that recently at the parking lot belonging to the metro station in Meenambakkam a board was put out that showed details about the number of parked vehicles and availability of vacant spaces. The board showed that the parking was full and due to that many 2 wheelers were parked in front of the bus stand. This led to many issues for the commuters in boarding the buses. Last month in June, Koyambedu metro station made news as CMRL added more space at the station with a separate parking facility for women.
To expand the existing parking spaces available at the metro stations in Chennai, CMRL has been taking steps. Point is that unused spaces have been identified for the parking of 2 wheelers and 4 wheelers etc.
