In the future, if you happen to use 3.3km from Vijayanagar Service Road to MGR Salai in Velachery, then don`t be surprised to see bright street lights there!!
Greater Chennai Corporation or GCC is now busy installing street lights here. It is known that Velachery is an important locality in south Chennai. The station service road connecting Velachery and Taramani would be benefited by this activity of GCC.
After a long delay, the Southern Railways or SR had completed a road running parallel to the Mass Rapid Transit System or MRTS line. This road forms a connecting link between the IT corridor and the Velachery Main Road is known.
The lack of street lights coupled with over speeding of vehicles has been creating issues for many motorists here. It was mentioned by Mr. Guganesan, chief public relations officer belonging to SR that efforts have been going on to hand over the land to the Greater Chennai Corporation.
A senior officer from GCC spoke about how Rs 1.90 crores was deposited by Southern Railways for street lights installation work for 3.3km from Vijayanagar Service Road to MGR Salai. It is learnt that the road falling under Adyar and Perungudi zones would have 135 street lights and work on pole fixing has started now.
Under the 5 tender packages, the street lights would be commissioned and one package has been issued with work taken up. Point is that the remaining 4 packages would be finalized and completed soon.
For laying cable work, permission has been given to Tangedco and this was as per an officer belonging to railways department. This was with respect to the closure of one portion of lane between Taramani and Perungudi.
It is noteworthy that SR has requested for early execution of the work or restoration of roads at the earliest.
