Door-to-door collection!! Chennai residents get ready to provide your Aadhaar number details!!

Chennai residents don`t be surprised if you get a knock at your door from the officials of the election department of GCC!!
To identify the names of voters that appear in more than one electoral roll, Aadhaar number would be collected by the election department of GCC from 1st of August. Before 31st of March 2023, Aadhaar details of all the voters would be collected.
After the publication of draft electoral rolls on 5th of January 2022, the Chennai District Election office has already removed more than 1 lakh double entries.
For the purpose of linking the Aadhaar number with the electoral roll, a training session took place for the officers and 11 alternative documents like PAN card and passport for those who do not have an Aadhaar number. Soon, there would be door-to-door visits by the teams led by 3750 booth level officers in Chennai to collect Aadhaar number details from the voters and this work would be completed by 31st March 2023.
Authorisation has been given to the electoral registration officers to get the Aadhaar number from every voter in a prescribed form and manner. On or before 1st April 2023, every voter must provide his or her Aadhaar number compulsorily. This was specified by the notification of June 17.
According to an official belonging to the election department l, more than 99% of duplicate entries have been removed. After 1st of August, SVEEP activities would be started for creating awareness regarding the Aadhaar number collection from the residents belonging to all the neighbourhoods
