On Saturday, 30th July 2022, there will be a street food festival that will be organised by GCC in Bouganvilla Park belonging to Anna Nagar in Chennai. The visitors would be surprised to see atleast 50 types of various street foods at the park.
The vendors from several parts in Chennai would be setting up atleast 50 stalls with various varieties of street foods and it would be 5pm to 8pm in the evening. There would be cultural events and loan mela for the street vendors.
According to an official belonging to GCC, self help groups would set up 5 stalls. And more than 25 street food stalls would be available. He mentioned that Rs 1000 at an interest of 7% would be issued as loans for the street vendors. Those vendors who have taken up digital transactions would be awarded. He then threw light on how GCC has recommended as many as 1.12 lakhs applications from various street vendors for loan in Chennai.
Superb piece of information is that the residents could come to the street food festival and can eat the foods they like. No branded companies have been invited for this street food festival. In future, there would be more such street food festivals in Chennai and it would be based on the response from the residents. By this, the livelihood of street vendors would become better.
The street food festival at Anna Nagar would witness a diverse group of street vendors from several places in Chennai. To create awareness among the street vendors about the hygienic preparation of food and for certification of food safety, stalls would be set up by the food safety officers.
It is now brought out that the focus would be on promoting public health among consumers of street food. The Chennai Mayor has asked the residents to take part in this amazing street food festival.
