The GCC has now got plans to increase the number of on-street parking lots in Chennai to help the motorists. For creating as many as 12000 parking slots in Chennai 88 new locations have been identified by the GCC.
According to the GCC Commissioner Mr. Gagandeep Singh Bedi, as many as 88 new locations were identified in Chennai. Feasibility study would be made and more than 12000 slots are expected to be ready in Chennai.
Now, in Chennai as many as 44 parking lots have been crated on Sardar Patel Road in Adyar, Industrial Estate Road in Ambattur, Second Avenue in Anna Nagar, Third Avenue in Ashok Nagar, Sixth Avenue in Besant Nagar, Wallajah Salai in Triplicane, G.N. Chetty Road in T. Nagar, KNK Road in Nungambakkam and second Line beach Road.
License inspectors have been made in-charge and they would be overseeing the operations on parking lots in each of the 200 wards in Chennai. In a separate dashboard that was brought under the purview of the Ripon Buildings based Integrated Command and Control Centre, daily revenue collection and parking occupancy was being updated.
It was revealed by an officer that the civic body has increased the number of parking attendants from 160 to 180 and it would be increased to 250 soon. In a few locations, POS machines have been introduced to give receipts. He hinted that portable mike system has been introduced to divert traffic for parking attendants.
