On Sunday night, Chennai and its suburbs witnessed heavy rains with lightning and thunder. There was a cool atmosphere throughout the night yesterday. This has surprised many residents now as they did not expect heavy rains all of a sudden.
The weather in Chennai and its suburbs were hot in the last one month though it rained well across Tamil Nadu. Despite high humidity in Chennai and its suburbs in the mornings, there were no rains. On Sunday, 21st August 2022, the weather was hot in the morning and after sunset it became highly humid in Chennai and its suburbs. In the evening, it started to rain in the suburbs and around 8pm in the evening Chennai received heavy rains with thunder and lightning.
Various localities in Chennai that received heavy rains on Sunday evening were Chepauk, Triplicane, Mylapore, Saidapet, Royapettah, Alwarpet, Teynampet plus in other localities like Adyar, Kotturpuram, Pattinapakkam, Egmore, Nungambakkam, Vepery, Pulianthope, Vyasarpadi, Perambur and Koyambedu etc.
Rains were witnessed in suburban localities like Maduravoyal, Poonamallee, Avadi, Pattabiram, Thiruninravur and Ambattur etc. The sudden unexpected heavy rains have led to overflowing of water in places such as Anna Salai, Perambur Barracks Road, Poonamalle Road and Walltax Road etc.
